Program Details

The Associate in Applied Science in Substance Abuse Counseling is an online substance abuse counseling degree program from Iowa Lakes Community College.  This program prepares students for the certification exam to become established by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification or to continue their educations in a four-year college or university.  The curriculum provides a strong foundation in substance abuse counseling, including the skills needed to succeed as a counselor.  Students will examine the role of substance abuse treatment, the connection between psychology and sociology to addiction, and addiction in society.  You will gain skills in assessment, planning, referral, monitoring, documentation, and writing as well as learning interviewing techniques.
