Program Details
The Associate in Applied Science in Human Services/Disability Studies is an online human services degree from Iowa Lakes Community College. This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment or to transfer to a four-year college or university to study social work, psychology, counseling, or education/special education. The curriculum develops skills in planning and case management, assessment and referrals, interviewing and behavioral observations, and working with individuals and groups. Coursework explores the role of human services in society, examines psychology and sociology as they relate to human services, and teaches students to differentiate between urgent and non-urgent client situations. Graduates are prepared to practice ethics and confidentiality as they work in treatment centers, social service agencies, or supported living programs.
