Program Details

The online Master of Science in School Counseling program prepares educators for licensure and professional practice as K-12 school counselors.  The curriculum covers topics relevant to school environments, including learning disabilities and children who have learned English as a second language, and provides expertise in helping young people navigate difficulties with family, teachers, and peers.  Educators learn to play active roles in assisting students as they build healthy coping skills, develop self-reliance, and find their unique voices, and prepares educators to provide support, guidance, and to advocate on behalf of their students and their families.  Graduates are also empowered to support causes that uphold mental wellness for all and to act ethically and professionally.

Requirements

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrate completion of the following undergraduate prerequisites:
    • 3 credits in General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Theory or another foundational course
    • 3 credits in Research Methods or Statistics
  • Submit official transcripts 
  • Demonstrate achievement of a minimum GPA of a 3.0 
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • An academic who can attest to your academic ability
  • A professional or supervisor who can attest to your professional qualification, abilities, and temperament for the field
  • A personal statement 
  • A personal interview 

Two weekend residencies during the course of the program are required
