Master of Science in Education / Teacher Certification

Program Details

The online Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Teacher Certification program allows students to earn a master’s degree in education while preparing for teacher certification in either PreK-4 Education or Secondary Education in Biology, Mathematics, and Social Studies.  The curriculum is a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical instructional skills where educators will explore and analyze social, political, and economic issues that influence the course of public education.  Graduates apply policies, statutes, and rules relating to judicious application of disciplinary methods and behavioral procedures and identify and use instructional methods and curricula that are appropriate and effective in meeting the needs of individual learners as they help diverse learners reach their potential.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proof of sufficient subject-area coursework for the following certification options:
    • Grades 4-8 Science: 30 credits undergraduate science
    • Grades 4-8 Math: 30 credits undergraduate math
    • Grades 4-8 Math and Science: 42 credits combined math and science (21 each)
    • Secondary Biology: 62 undergraduate credits
    • Secondary Math: 41 undergraduate credits
    • Secondary Social Studies: 42 undergraduate credits
  • A current professional resume
  • A writing sample stating your professional and academic goals 
  • Two completed supervisory reference forms
