Program Details

The online Certificate of Applied Science in Health Information Coding Specialist program prepares students to begin successful careers where they will transform verbal descriptions of diseases, injuries, and procedures into alphanumeric designations used for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.  Graduates are prepared to sit for the National Certified Coding Associate exam.  

Students learn to:

  • Use computer applications and software in maintaining health records
  • Identify and apply accurate diagnostic and procedural codes for reimbursement
  • Interact professionally in the healthcare environment
  • Solve problems while utilizing critical thinking skills

Requirements

  • High school and college (if applicable) transcripts
  • COMPASS placement test (may be waived by ACT/SAT scores or previous college credit in math and writing)
