The Master of Science in Financial Planning degree program is designed to provide students with the skills, education, and professional credentials that are needed within the modern field of finance. Generally, students within the program pursue careers as an investment advisor, financial planner, or money manager. The program's courses will also fulfill the requirements for the Certified Financial Planner designation.
All courses may be completed entirely online within CyberCampus. However, Golden Gate University also offers students the option to complete traditional, campus-based courses on the San Francisco campus.
Students will learn a variety of topics within the field of financial planning. One of the program’s main objectives is to provide students with the technical and communication skills that are required to work within teams and maintain professional client relationships. The courses will teach students to design, create, and implement financial plans in order to help clients meet future goals. Students will also gain experience in areas such as recognizing ethical dilemmas, application of financial planning education, and resolving complex financial problems.
The program requires students to complete a minimum of 42 units in order to graduate. The 42 units are divided into 12 Foundation Program and 30 Advanced Program units. The Advanced Program units are then further divided into 21 Core Course units and 9 Elective units. Some Core Courses that will be provided within the program are Personal Financial Planning, Personal Investment Management, Income Tax Planning, Estate Planning, Cases in Financial Planning, and Practicum in Financial Planning.

With just four students, Golden Gate University began evening classes in 1901 in San Francisco. Today, it maintains three added campus locations, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Seattle, along with an online program fueled by “cutting edge course content” and “real world and real time” instructors that bring exdivertise to the classroom. This private nonprofit university targets undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in “law, taxation, business and related professions.” Today, the university hosts thousands of online students across the globe in forty plus countries. Limited class sizes provide a “seminar-style” atmosphere with asynchronous discussions. Golden Gate offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a myriad of disciplines. These degrees also are available for online students with the exception of Psychology, Law, and cohort programs.
