Master of Science in Accounting
Golden Gate University offers a Master of Science in Accounting program that may be completed at the student's own pace with about half of the program's courses being offered completely online. The program is designed for those that are interested in strengthening their accounting skills and would like to complete the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination. Students within the program will fulfill the 150-hour CPA exam education requirement. There are also CPA review courses within program that will prepare students for the exam.
The MSA program at Golden Gate University offers students the ability to customize their course load. Students may choose 24 elective units within subjects such as tax, business, and various areas of accounting. In addition to the elective courses, students may also complete a General or Forensic Accounting concentration. Both concentrations require the completion of 24 units.
The university also provides students the option of enrolling in the accelerated MSA cohort program. Full time students may complete the program in nine months. The cohort program features small class sizes and an intense course load. During the course of the cohort program, students will also be engaged in job placement activities.
Students will be required to complete 18 Accounting Proficiency Requirement units, 30 Advanced Program units, and 24 Concentration units. Some Accounting Proficiency courses are Introductory Managerial Accounting, Federal Income Tax I, Auditing, and Intermediate Accounting II. Students that completed all of the Accounting Proficiency Requirement courses with a grade of “C-“ or higher at a previous institution may have the requirement waived.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will have been educated in a variety of different accounting skills. Students will have a strong foundation on topics such as communication, financial accounting principles, auditing, internal controls, forensic accounting, economics and finance. Students will also have gained experience in skills such as fraud prevention, data analysis, and managerial accounting.
