Program Overview

The Master of Accountancy at Golden Gate University may be completed entirely online. The program is designed for students that are interested in careers as a CMA or CPA. The program’s curriculum and courses will fulfill the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination requirements ensuring graduates are eligible to take the exam upon successful completion. Students may also enroll in varying elective courses that will prepare students for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or the CPA exam. Students may also take internship credits during the spring and summer semesters. The internship will provide students with real-world experience and help prepare for future careers.

The program’s courses will be offered through Golden Gate University’s online learning environment called CyberCampus. Taking courses through CyberCampus give’s course schedule flexibility and allows students to complete the program at their own pace.

The accelerated Master of Accountancy cohort program may be completed in 12 months. The course load within the cohort program is described as “intense” and will also have various job placement activities each semester. Prior to beginning the cohort program in July, students may take Foundation Program courses to prepare for the graduate level courses.

Students will need to take nine units within Foundation Program courses, 36 Advanced Program units, and 12 Graduate Elective units. Students will not need to take the Foundation Program courses if they have successfully completed the CPA exam. Some Advanced Program courses are Advanced Financial Accounting, Auditing, and Issues in Modern Management Accounting. Some Graduate Electives are Advanced Issues in Financial Reporting, Advanced Federal Income Taxation, and Financial Statement Analysis.

The Master of Accountancy program also offers students the option of completing a concentration. The concentration’s courses will provide an in depth education with specific areas of accounting. The three concentrations are General, Forensic Accounting, and Taxation.

Upon completion of the program, students will be educated within a variety of areas within the field of accounting. Students will have gained experience in communication, auditing, identifying accounting issues, and revenue recognition. Students will also be proficient in areas such as accounting principles, International Financial Reporting Standards, professional responsibility, and effective accounting decision-making.

    With just four students, Golden Gate University began evening classes in 1901 in San Francisco. Today, it maintains three added campus locations, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Seattle, along with an online program fueled by “cutting edge course content” and “real world and real time” instructors that bring exdivertise to the classroom. This private nonprofit university targets undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in “law, taxation, business and related professions.” Today, the university hosts thousands of online students across the globe in forty plus countries. Limited class sizes provide a “seminar-style” atmosphere with asynchronous discussions. Golden Gate offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a myriad of disciplines. These degrees also are available for online students with the exception of Psychology, Law, and cohort programs.
