Program Overview

Golden Gate University has designed the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Studies in Taxation program for working tax professionals that are interested in enhancing their current knowledge. The program’s courses are intended for those that have already earned an MBA or MS in taxation but would like to strengthen their expertise  at their own pace. Students may have up to five years to take and complete the certificate program’s courses.

In order to apply to the program, the student must have an MS, MBA, or LLM from GGU. However, the dean may approve a degree from another school. The entire program may be completed online; although, students may also take campus-based classes on the San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles campuses.

Many of the instructors at Golden Gate University are experienced working professionals. Working instructors provide real-world experience and application within the classroom so that students are better prepared for current or future careers.

In order to receive the certificate, students must complete 12 semester units. Students can complete the unit requirement by taking GGU's Master of Science in Taxation program courses. Some courses are Advanced Federal Income Taxation, Federal Tax Procedure, Tax Research & Decision Making, Property Transactions, and Tax Timing. Students also have the option of retaking any two courses that were a part of their previous MS degree.

Some of the courses may have prerequisites that need to be completed before enrollment. The prerequisites can be completed through course completion at GGU or approved transfer credit.

    School Overview

With just four students, Golden Gate University began evening classes in 1901 in San Francisco. Today, it maintains three added campus locations, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Seattle, along with an online program fueled by “cutting edge course content” and “real world and real time” instructors that bring exdivertise to the classroom. This private nonprofit university targets undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in “law, taxation, business and related professions.” Today, the university hosts thousands of online students across the globe in forty plus countries. Limited class sizes provide a “seminar-style” atmosphere with asynchronous discussions. Golden Gate offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a myriad of disciplines. These degrees also are available for online students with the exception of Psychology, Law, and cohort programs.
