Program Details

The online Master of Arts in Teacher Leader with a specialization in English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed for grades P-12 and helps teachers develop skills in teaching non-English-speaking students.  The curriculum gives practicing teachers the knowledge and skills needed to expand their teaching abilities, especially in how to help non-English-speaking students succeed academically and culturally.  Courses for this endorsement include ESL Teaching Methods and Techniques, ESL Assessment and Culture, ESL Linguistic Theory and Analysis, and Communicating with Immigrants.


  • Submit official transcripts with undergraduate degree posted and official transcript if graduate coursework was completed
  • Students must have either a 2.75 undergraduate GPA, a 3.0 on the last 30 hours of coursework, or a 3.5 on 15 hours of graduate work
  • Please answer the writing prompt using critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity
  • If you are certified in a state other than Kentucky, submit a copy of your teaching certificate
