Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation
George Fox University

Program Details

The online Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation degree program is for individuals gifted in listening, companioning, and guiding people’s spiritual journeys, and in creating formation environments such as retreats. This program prepares students to serve as leaders of spiritual formation ministries and as spiritual directors in the church, community, and world. The curriculum is biblically grounded and Christ-centered, strengthening understanding of the various disciplines that undergird the ministry of formation and discipleship while incorporating Scripture, theology, psychology, and social-cultural factors. Students develop habits of authentic disciplines for living holistically in the modern world and learn to relate to themselves and others as beings created in God’s image and called into communities and ministry. You will gain a critical and constructive understanding of the biblical and theological foundations of the Christian tradition of formation and discipleship, learn to guide others and teach them these ideas, and relate this knowledge to the mission of God in the world. Graduates are equipped to work with individuals or groups in spiritual formation and discipleship and are encouraged to grow spiritually while strengthening their moral integrity to serve God’s mission.
