Program Details

The online Certificate in Help Desk Support from Genesee Community College prepares students to help others with computer systems.  This certificate is designed to teach students how to provide help and advice to those using computer software or equipment.  As a Help Desk Technician, you will help non-IT users with their computer problems.  To succeed, students need to be prepared to support the interaction with computer systems for a wide range of user groups, including those in such industries as IT, education, finance, health care, telecommunications, retail, and entertainment. 

The curriculum is designed to introduce students to:

  • Computers
  • Fundamental technologies in computer networks
  • Programming
  • Problem solving
  • Communication techniques


  • High school transcript or GED
  • College transcripts, if applicable
  • ACT test scores, or take the Accuplacer placement test
  • Students must submit a certificate of residence to qualify for New York State resident tuition
