Program Overview

The Associate of Arts in General Studies (Liberal Arts) degree offered by Fulton-Montgomery Community College is a program of study that is available to students in a completely online format. This program is intended for individuals who wish to transfer to 4-year institutions, but who do not yet have the ability to commit to a Bachelor’s level program. Students can tailor and design this program to meet their professional and educational goals.

This program requires its students to take and complete a minimum of 62 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. The breakdown of requirements is that a student must take 45 semester hours of Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as two different types of physical education. Students must take courses in the following subject areas in order to meet the State University of New York General Education Approved course requirements: English, Social Science, Natural Science, Physical Science, Physical Education, Mathematics, and Humanities. Students should choose their Liberal Arts electives as well as their open electives according to their personal interests and career goals. For example, students who are interested in pursuing a career in communications, theatre, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, or special education should work with their academic advisor to best select the courses that will align with their areas of interests and their intended transfer institutions.

    School Overview

    Fulton-Montgomery Community College was founded in 1963. The campus, located in borrowed facilities in Johnstown, moved to its permanent location for the 1968-69 academic year. Students who once majored in leather making and secretarial science are now majoring in one of 40 academic programs including liberal arts and sciences, business, electrical technology, media communication, nursing, and radiologic technology.

    Fulton-Montgomery Community College offers completely online associate’s degree programs. In addition to these completely online degrees FM also offers a number of online and blended classes.
