Program Overview

Students in the Associate of Applied Science in Accounting program offered by Front Range Community College will receive extensive exposure to accounting applications in selected areas via this program. As this is an Associate of Applied Sciences degree, an objective of this program is to prepare students who graduate for immediate acquisition of entry-level positions of employment in the field of accounting. This program may be ideal for an individual who cannot fully commit to a full-time course schedule.

This program aims to prepare students in a wide variety of clerical and paraprofessional skills and knowledge related to the accounting field. Students are provided with the competencies needed to work effectively under the supervision of controllers, chief accountants, accounting supervisors, certified public accountants, and other professional accountants or professionals in the accounting field.

This program requires its students to complete 60 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. This includes 15 credit hours in General Education courses. Students are required to take these courses in order to better equip them for the professional world. Students gain important competencies in a wide variety of subject matters and hone their critical thinking skills and analysis.

Students must take courses in the following subject areas: English, Mathematics, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural or Physical Sciences. The required courses in Accounting include: Fundamentals of Accounting, Accounting Principles I and II, and Spreadsheet Applications for Accounting. Students must also complete the capstone: Company Financial Overview, or fulfill an accounting internship. Students then take 6 credit hours in Accounting or Business related courses. A student should choose their electives according to their personal interests and career goals.
