Program Overview

The Accounting Certificate program offered by Front Range Community College aims to prepare its students for job entry in a wide variety of clerical and technical positions. These positions should have recordkeeping or bookkeeping components. Students who have already achieved significant skills and knowledge in basic accounting fundamentals or advanced knowledge in computer applications can take higher courses that both inform and challenge them while honing their accounting skills. This program is intended for individuals who have previous knowledge and skills in basic computer applications in a Microsoft Windows operating environment.

The Accounting Certificate program at Front Range Community College requires its students to take and complete 25 credit hours of courses in order to receive the certificate. The required courses include: Fundamentals of Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Accounting Principles I, Computerized Accounting with a Professional Package, Business Communication and report Writing, Complete PC Word Processing: Word, and PC Spreadsheet Concepts: Excel. Students also take one additional course in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, or Business that best fits their professional interests or goals. A student may consult with an Accounting faculty advisor for alternative courses that speak better to more experienced students. Since this program is a professional certificate instead of an associate’s degree program, students do not have to take any general education courses.
