The Master of Arts in Kinesiology: Physical Education Emphasis degree offered by Fresno Pacific University is intended for students with a background in physical education or coaching. This program is designed for students who wish to enhance competencies in teaching, coaching, consulting, or program administration. A graduate of this program should be competent enough to gain employment in a variety of sport or physical-related careers. Students are required to complete clinical experiences during the fall and spring semesters.
This program aims to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge relating to not only Kinesiology, but also to Physical Education. A student enrolled in this program will learn how to design content and grade-specific standards based curricula. This program covers professional standards needed to identify and develop effective, developmentally appropriate and standards-based lesson plans, as well as engage in reflective practices to improve instructional effectiveness. Students also may use and develop a variety of standards-based assessment tools and techniques and learn how to statistically analyze results for program improvements.
Students must fulfill 36 to 37 credit hours in order to graduate. The Kinesiology Courses include: Technology and Kinesiology, Legal Aspects of Kinesiology and Sport, and Assessment in Physical Education. Students then complete a Master of Arts core of Research Methods in Kinesiology and Values in Kinesiology and Sport and then choose a culmination option. The options include the course option, the thesis option, and the comprehensive examination option. These options convey the level of advancement that a student has achieved through the course of this program. This program may take approximately 14 to 17 months to complete and starts in each spring and summer semester. A student may potentially waive some prerequisites for every year of verified, full-time physical education teaching or coaching experience.
