Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Kinesiology: Athletic Training Emphasis degree offered by Fresno Pacific University is a program of study that may be completed over the course of 14 months and is intended for individuals who are National Athletic Trainers’ Associate Board of Certification certified athletic trainers. These trainers must also have good standing or be eligible to take the National Athletic Trainers’ Associate Board of Certification examination. The Athletic Training emphasis of this program aims to provide a student with intensive study in athletic training methods, administration, and organization, as well as advanced therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation. Students enrolled in this program should gain an understanding of common research methods, psychological aspects of injuries and rehabilitation, and sports laws and ethics. Students are required to complete clinical experiences during the fall and spring semesters.

This program aims to equip its students with advanced skills and knowledge relating to not only Kinesiology, but also to Athletic Training. A student, by the end of this program, should be able to perform the following skills and convey the following knowledge: to devise integrated, functional rehabilitation techniques for spine and upper and lower extremity sport-related injuries, to be able to analyze different athletic training administrative techniques and to apply these techniques to professional settings, and to create, apply, and asses effective athletic training didactic and clinical learning experiences.

Participants must complete 36 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. The required courses in the Kinesiology core include: Technology in Kinesiology, Legal Aspects of Kinesiology and Sport, and Psychology and Sports. Students then complete the Master of Arts core. Students complete the Research Methods in Kinesiology and Values in Kinesiology and Sport courses, and then choose a course option, a thesis option, or a comprehensive examination option.
