Program Details
The associate’s degree in Social and Human Services from Florida SouthWestern State College strives to develop culturally competent, compassionate, and accountable human service professionals.
Core courses in this online Human Services degree cover topics such as crisis intervention, alcoholism, dynamics of group counseling, behavior modification, mental health issues, ethics, and multicultural perspectives. Students will complete a residency experience during the final semester of the program. Graduates will be prepared to work under the supervision of social workers, psychologists, sociologists, and other related professionals in a variety of settings.
Students can choose from three specialty tracks:
- Human Services Generalist – A broad foundation to work with diverse populations in a variety of environments
- Addictions – Academic training required for state certification related to chemical dependency and substance abuse
- Youth Development – Knowledge and skills to work with children and families in community, school, residential, and group environments
