Program Details

Florida International University offers an online Certificate in Afro-Latin American Studies to the nontraditional student.  This interdisciplinary program grounded in African studies is designed to prepare students for graduate studies, professional school, and professional development.  Studies include arts and humanities and social sciences from global hip hop and gender and sexuality to history and politics.

Students will specifically examine all peoples of African descent in the Latin American and Caribbean as well as communities built from transatlantic slave trade and migration movements.  Graduates with this certificate may pursue employment in fields requiring international, transnational, global, and multicultural knowledge and approaches.  Explore cultural expressions, social and political realities, and economic conditions with FIU online and expand your global perspectives and academic pathway.
