Program Overview

Accounting and bookkeeping are some of the most important parts of the business process. It’s vital that the owners and operators of a business understand their income and expenditures and correctly manage their costs, debts, and assets.  Businesses have always needed highly skilled and highly trained Accountants. Accountants themselves though focus entirely on numbers and bookkeeping, but just like every other part of the business, management needs to be able to guide the efforts of employees. Some of the people in the business need to have an understanding of the business and management aspects of the operation as well as knowledge of accounting practices and procedures in order to act as an intermediary between the two.

People interested in being an accountant will get a degree in accounting but inpiduals seeking responsibility in the business beyond the numbers and the bookkeeping have options for education, combining business education and accounting. Florida Tech University establishes an education path for these inpiduals with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a Specialization in Accounting degree. Florida Tech offers the BA in Business Administration entirely online, so professionals and inpiduals who normally would not attend the traditional educational environment can achieve a degree to help advance their educations and careers.

Business Administration students specializing in Accounting will develop the management abilities of planning, strategy, organization, staffing, leading, and control while practicing the fundamental of cost accounting and incorporating principles and procedures of internal/public financial auditing. These skills allow a manager to communicate the issues of the accountants to management, as well as communicate the desires and intentions of the management to the accountants. Students in the program will learn the decision-making managerial process and how to implement them in a business setting and gain experience in strategies and formatting when communicating in organizational situations.
