    School Overview

The idea for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) sparked in 1991 when residents of southwestern Florida began the initiative to bring a public university to their region. The vision for the university was one that would address emerging higher education needs for the 21st century, including the use of technology in the learning/teaching process and multi-year contracts as an alternative to faculty tenure. The first students were admitted in 1997.

FGCU offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the following colleges:

    • College of Arts & Sciences
    • College of Education
    • College of Health Professions & Social Work
    • Lutgert College of Business
    • U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering

FGCU offers online certificates through partner organizations of online learning.
