Program Details

The online Master of Education in School Counseling program prepares educators to adequately serve youth with the professional tools necessary to assist with social, academic, and family situations.  Educators learn to help today’s elementary, middle, and high school students emotionally as they struggle with more issues than ever.  The curriculum prepares educators to manage the organization, planning, management, and evaluation of comprehensive school counseling programs.  Courses include:

  • Introduction to School Counseling
  • Counseling Theories
  • Life Span Development
  • Career and Guidance Counseling
  • Counseling Diverse Populations

Requirements

A 5-day clinical training course on campus is required.

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Passing scores on the MAT or GRE, no more than five years old
  • Three letters of recommendation with specific comments regarding the applicant’s academic work, professional experience and ability to successfully complete graduate study
  • A goal statement (approximately 600 words)
  • Valid teaching certificate in Alabama
  • Completed form from principal or other school official verifying 2 years of full-time acceptable professional educational work experience
  • Proof of criminal background check
