Program Details

Eastfield College offers an online Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Business Office Systems and Support for students interested in becoming Executive Assistants.  The degree includes a comprehensive curriculum designed as an advanced level program to prepare students for executive assistantship and computer support positions in an office environment. 

State-of-the-art technology is employed to produce the necessary skills to become a valued member of the business community.  Classes discuss such varied topics as office management, human relations, records management, oral and written business communications, as well as word processing, spreadsheets, database, and telecommunication applications.  Students must meet required Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards as well as earn 25 percent of the college credits through the college awarding the degree.

The AAS in Business Office Systems and Support is a 61- to 63-credit-hour program taught over four semesters.  The first semester courses are: Computer Applications I, Business English, Beginning Keyboarding or Intermediate Keyboarding, Computer Applications II or Medical Software Applications, and History of the United States. 

The second semester includes classes in: Administrative Office Procedures I or Medical Administrative Support, Word Processing, Business Presentations, and Composition I. 

Third semester courses include: Business Correspondence and Communication, Spreadsheets, Records and Information Management, Business Math and People and Their Environment or electives in Natural Science and Humanities/Fine Arts. 

The final semester entails: Desktop Publishing or Advanced Word Processing or Project Management Software, Databases or Introduction to Database, Cooperative Education-Administrative Assistant and Secretarial Science or Cooperative Education-General Office Occupations and Clerical Services, and Introduction to Speech Communication or Fundamentals of Public Speaking.
