Associate in Sciences Degree
Eastfield College offers an online Associate in Sciences degree ideal for those interested in using this program as a starting point for continuing their education at a four-year institution. To receive this AS degree the student must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours in required courses, receive a GPA of 2.0, earn a grade of “C” or better in English 1301, Speech (1311, 1315 or 1321), and a mathematics course, meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, and finally, complete at least 25 percent of the credit hours through the college awarding the degree.
AS degree course requirements are broken down into three tiers. Tier one, core foundations, includes courses in Critical Reading and Writing (6 hrs.), Speaking and Listening (3-4 hrs.), Quantitative Reasoning (3-4 hrs.), and Wellness and the Human Experience (1-3 hrs.). Tier two, core domains, has classes in Qualitative Reasoning- Literacy and Research (3 hrs.), Self and Society (9 hrs.), Humanity-Creativity and the Aesthetic Experience (6 hrs.), and Scientific Discovery and Sustainability (8 hrs.). Tier three, Integrative Learning, includes one course in Critical Issues in Local, National and Global Contexts (3 hrs.).
Finally, the student selects six hours from courses starting with the following prefixes: BCIS, BIOL, CHEM, COSC, ENGR, ENVR, FORS GEOL, MATH, PHYS or ANTH 2401 in conjunction with 12 hours from any other college-level courses. The total credit hours for this degree are 60-64.
