Program Overview

Eastfield College offers an online Business Office Systems and Support- Administrative Support Certificate designed to prepare students for successful careers as office professionals.  This program is tailored to the specifications of the local job market.  Students must meet required Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards as well as earn 25 percent of the college credits through the college awarding the degree.  If the student plans to transfer to a four-year institution they should consult an advisor to discover the requirements for transferability of the courses offered through Eastfield.

The Administrative Support Certificate is a 43- to 47-credit-hour program taught over the course of three semesters.  First semester classes are taught in: Computer Application I, Business English, Beginning Keyboarding or Intermediate Keyboarding, Computer Applications II or Medical Software Applications, and Introduction to Speech Communication or Fundamentals of Public Speaking. 

The second semester encompasses courses in: Administrative Office Procedures I or Medical Administrative Support, Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Business Math and Machine Applications or Business Math, and Composition I. 

Finally, the third semester courses are: Business Correspondence and Communication, Cooperative Education- Administrative Assistant and Secretarial Science or Cooperative Education- General Office Occupations and Clerical Services, Databases or Introduction to Database, Records and Information Management, and Desktop Publishing or Advanced Word Processing or Project Management Software.
