Program Details

Eastern Washington University’s Addiction Studies Foundation Certificate aims to enhance competence in identifying and addressing aspects of various addictions through courses aligned with state and national standards in addiction treatment. This certificate offers courses required by the Prevention Specialist Board of Washington for Associate Prevention Professional Candidates and will complement any course of study.

Students are required to take courses that focus on different aspects of addiction and various substances such as alcohol/drugs, HIV/AIDS, community prevention, family counseling, physiology and pharmacology. The certificate program is designed for the convenience of working professionals who wish to augment their knowledge in the healthcare field broadly with an emphasis on identifying and treating addiction. It is the faculty’s aim to help students supplement their studies with an understanding of the pathology of addiction and how to approach and treat it with cultural sensitivity.
