Program Details

The Online Master of Education in Multicultural Education with a concentration in TESOL is designed to equip educators to approach the complexity of cultural and linguistic diversity with a reflective and critical eye. Students will develop an appreciation of the implications of multiculturalism on student achievement. The program applies curricula, methodologies, and evaluation strategies proved to work for students of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Students will be able to reflect on their assumptions and practices in a critical manner and transform their teaching practice as a result. They will be equipped to construct unique visions for their classroom community that celebrates and respects difference for its generative abilities. Grounding in multicultural education will also enable students to instruct effectively in English to speakers of other languages. The program aims to produce leaders who promote educational equity for a diverse population.

The Online M.Ed. program integrates the university’s mission of faith, justice, and reason to promote educational equity. Students may take anywhere from one to seven years to complete the program, and its flexible delivery accommodates students with busy schedules anywhere in the world. Domestic and international students alike may complete the program with the exception of TESOL field experience. TESOL experience may be completed where the student resides under appropriate oversight.

The program can be entered at multiple points throughout the year with classes running in the fall, spring, and summer. International students may also take advantage of a four-week summer study at Eastern University’s campus.
