Program Overview

The Certificate in Education is a one-year program valuable for those seeking careers as educational assistants in K-12 education or for those working in early childhood settings. It is also useful for those wishing to enter into social services types of employment. An added benefit is that courses listed for the Certificate in Education may apply toward the AA in Education and support the student in advancing toward a bachelor’s degree and becoming a licensed teacher. This degree is also ideal for those wishing to enter into social services types of employment. Students may also pursue their teaching licenses, the certificate being the first step toward doing so.

The EOU College of Education maintains partnerships with three area community colleges for maximized flexibility. Students are also eligible for scholarships through several organizations supporting education students. Students will take the first step toward earning a bachelor degree, after which they will be equipped with the knowledge and skills not only to become lead teachers, but also to advance their careers through further graduate study. EOU’s College of Education offers programs in Early Childhood Education, Reading, and English as a Second Language.

The College faculty includes nationally and internationally recognized experts in their fields. Each faculty member provides students opportunities to master contemporary theories and approaches, and participate in practical experiences that enrich their lives and those they serve.

Eastern Oregon University and the College of Education are dedicated to meeting the University’s commitment of serving rural eastern Oregon and beyond through professional programs that give the student opportunities to engage with high quality instruction, practical research, and meaningful service.

The College offers its education programs at the main campus in La Grande and at regional sites located at Blue Mountain Community College (Pendleton); Mount Hood Community College (Gresham); Southwestern Oregon Community College (Coos Bay); and Treasure Valley Community College (Ontario).  The Master of Science program and other graduate opportunities are available through online instruction.

    School Overview

    Eastern Oregon University is a four-year public state university located in La Grande, Oregon. Founded in 1929, the university began as a preparatory school for teachers and was originally known as the Eastern Oregon Normal School. The university underwent yet a name change in the 1970s and became known as Eastern Oregon State College, which remained until 1997 when the university adopted its current name.

    Student at EOU can earn degrees at the associate's, bachelor’s, and master’s level in addition to post-secondary certificates. Eastern Oregon University offers in business administration, history, psychology, public administration and many more. Many of EOU's bachelor's and master's degrees are available in online or hybrid formats, as well as undergraduate and graduate level certifications and endorsements.
