Masters of Education in Reading and Literacy
Eastern New Mexico University offers an online Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Reading Education designed specifically to train elementary or secondary teachers to become experts in literacy. This program includes hands-on clinical experiences, tools and strategies to address a variety of issues that influence the lack of appreciable literacy in and out of schools today. Graduates are eligible for an endorsement by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
The MEd in Reading Education is a 30 credit-hour program consisting of 10 courses. Some of the required courses, both core and emphasis include: Advanced Reading Theory/Philosophy and Historical Foundation, Critical Pedagogy and Educational Reform, and Literacy Assessment and Evaluation.
If the student chooses the thesis option they must also take six hours of elective courses. If the non-thesis option is chosen the student must take 12 hours of elective courses.
