Masters in Physical Education with Sports Administration Emphasis
Eastern New Mexico University offers an online Master of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in either Coaching or Sports Administration. This program seeks to advance students' knowledge and prepare them for an administrative career as a coach, physical education teacher, athletic director, recreation director, or a career in the private sports industry. The courses follow NASPE-NASSM curriculum guidelines.
The thesis option requires 30 hours of coursework and six hours of thesis credit which includes an oral defense. The non-thesis option requires 36 hours of coursework along with written and oral comprehensive exams.
The core curriculum courses include: Research in Physical Education, Professional Writing, Psychosocial Aspects of Sport, and Management and Leadership in Sport. The Sports Administration emphasis requires the following courses: Finance of Sport, Sport and Recreation Facility Management, and Sport Marketing. Nine hours of elective courses are then chosen to complete the degree. If the thesis option is chosen this accounts for six of the required nine hours of electives.
