Program Details

Eastern New Mexico University offers an online Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Secondary Education. This program strives to increase the student’s knowledge and skills in two or more education disciplines in either an advanced content focus for endorsement areas or an educational methodology focus from a variety of education disciplines. Either option requires 21 hours of core courses along with 15 hours of advisor-approved electives.

The MEd in Secondary Education is a 36 credit-hour program that includes either a thesis or non-thesis option. Both options require 12 hours of core courses in: Theories of Learning and Motivation, and School Law or Special Education Law. Likewise, both options require the following classes: Curriculum: Theory into Practice, and Social Context of Effective Instruction.

The non-thesis option requires 12 hours of electives whereas the thesis option requires only six. Students must have a concentration of a minimum of 24-30 hours in a subject matter area that qualifies for an endorsement on a teaching license. This requirement is usually met with the applicant’s undergraduate degree.
