Eastern New Mexico University offers an online Master of Education (MEd) degree for those who wish to obtain the knowledge and skills to become a school administrator. This program qualifies candidates for a New Mexico educational administration license for principals and superintendents. Students not interested in administration credentials may request permission to take courses outside this purview.
Completing this degree along with NMTA Educational Administration exam allows students to apply for a NMPED License in Educational Administration. This program also meets the standards of the following professional associations: the National Policy Board for Educational Administration, the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, and the Code of Ethics of the American Association of School Administrators.
The MEd program includes 15 credit hours of core courses and 15 hours of Educational Administration classes that culminate in a year-long internship. Core courses may include Educational Research, and Theories of Learning and Motivation. Educational Administration required courses include Systems Communication, School Law, and School Finance. Participants will need to fulfill 6 credits of internship experience. There is also a Thesis option in lieu of completing the internship requirement.
