Program Details

Eastern Michigan University offers an online Master of Arts in Media and Technology (EDMT) degree for preparing professionals to be able to facilitate student learning in various settings. The program focuses on the design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of instructional systems to provide a knowledge base for the application of skills useful for effective technology implementation.

Graduates from the program should be able to provide reasons for using and integrating technology in the educational process as well as become credible teachers of technology operation.

The MA in Media and Technology is 30- to 32-credit-hour program. Core EDMT courses include: Technology and Student-Centered Learning; Technology Enhanced Learning Environments; Instructional Design and Development of Multimedia Instructional Materials; The Use and Design of Online Resources for Educators; Advanced Technical Issues in Educational Technology; Advanced Productivity Tools in Teaching and Learning; Issues and Emerging Educational Technologies; and Seminar in Educational Technology.

Students also choose one foundation course, one research course, and a restrictive elective course.


Bachelor's degree with a 2.75 GPA in the last half of undergraduate course work; transcripts from previously attended institutions; analysis of goals statement; and two letters of recommendation.

The EMU College of Education is accredited the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the Michigan Department of Education for the preparation of educational personnel.


EMU is an approved State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) participant and approved to offer online programs to students living in any SARA member state. Students residing in Massachusetts are not approved.
