Master of Education (M.Ed.): Teaching and Learning Advanced Studies
In order to be a teacher in the United States at the kindergarten, elementary, middle, or high school level, people wishing to be teachers are required to have a minimum of a four-year degree from an accredited institution, as well as receive a license to teach in their state. Aspiring K-12 educators can enroll in any four year bachelor’s program to become a teacher. With a Master’s degree, inpiduals are qualified to teach at the four-year University or college level in most fields. In addition, teachers with graduate degrees and appropriate certifications may have additional specialized job opportunities and a larger career path opened to them.
East Tennessee State University offers a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning Advanced Studies for students seeking professional development as teachers and education. The program is designed to be available exclusively for licensed and practicing teacher. As part of the program, students will develop advanced professional skills and knowledge in the area of reading and language arts for practicing teachers. A great deal of the coursework is designed to be completed in the student’s own classroom. In addition, the interactions between the teacher and the classroom are entirely online. The benefit of online classes is that the student is afforded the ability to maintain their professional schedule and personal schedule while achieving their higher education goals.
