Ed.D. in Post-Secondary and Private Sector
East Tennessee State University offers the Doctor of Education in Post-secondary and Private Sector Leadership degree for professionals seeking to establish themselves as contributing members of the educational community. The program is designed for students holding a Master of Specialist degree who seek advanced knowledge and skills in educational leadership and research.
The program is intended for those who are developing their credentials and their knowledge fields related to educational leadership in K-12 education, post-secondary education, and private sector education. Students seeking entrance into the program will be screened to verify that the inpidual is a qualified candidate for the program. Students will be required to submit a residency portfolio of activities and complete a qualifying examination.
The Postsecondary and Private Sector Leadership concentration will develop candidates by focusing on creating understanding of the field of post-secondary and adult education. The focus is on developing strategies and techniques for educating adult learners and creating organizational designs that support private institutions.
As part of the core research program, students will undergo courses in educational statistics, quantitative research, and research in educational leadership, leadership studies, and theories of educational administration. The program for the concentration includes the study of adult learners, administration of higher education, higher education in law and finance, creating organizational cultures that support excellence, organizational development, integrating public agencies, educational program evaluation, grant and proposal development, policy analysis, community colleges in the united states, administration of higher education, and historical and philosophical foundations of education.
Doctoral candidates will be required to perform an internship as part of the program, and in order to achieve the doctorate, must pass a doctoral dissertation, representing a contributing research study on the field of school leadership.
