Doctor of Nursing Practice / Family Nurse Practitioner
East Tennessee State University

Program Details

If you are ready to advance your career in nursing and take on a leadership role, East Tennessee State University offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Family Nurse Practitioner degree.  This online nurse practitioner degree is focused on clinical practice while the DNP is a terminal professional degree that examines the healthcare needs of specific populations.

Preparing leaders in the nursing and health care practices, the curriculum prepares advanced practice nurses and executive nurse leaders to assess and evaluate evidence from research and then use these findings to enhance patient care.  Courses in the family nurse practitioner concentration look at patient centered quality care from newborns to the elderly.  You will be able to diagnose and treat common and acute illnesses, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests and more as a nurse practitioner but the main focus is always on the quality of care and health outcomes.  As a means to achieve the best quality of care, students learn how to best collaborate with other members of the patient’s healthcare team.

Upon completion of this online nurse practitioner degree students are eligible for the Family Nurse Practitioner National Certification exam.
