Program Overview

East Carolina University offers a Master of Adult Education in Adult Education degree as an online program in adult education designed to assist teachers, instructional designers, administrators, trainers, and other professionals. Those professionals working with adult learners will learn to develop skills necessary to initiate, design, administer, and implement effective educational programs. The program is designed to prepare adult educators who are knowledgeable and professional in their practice and capable of critical thinking and understanding of the subjects necessary for their successful exercising of their duties and responsibilities. 

The program is offered online for the convenience of students who may be professional teachers who are otherwise unable to attend a traditional classroom. The flexible and controllable class schedule available through online classes allows students of the Master’s program an opportunity to finish their graduate education without sacrificing their personal or professional schedules or responsibilities in the process. 

As part of the graduate program, students will be required to take classes in adult education and related subjects, complete an internship relating to adult education, and produce a master’s thesis work to receive approval for a Master of Adult Education degree. These classes include community education and community development, educational gerontology, communities of college education, developing programs in adult education, instructional strategies, issues and trends in adult education, leadership and communication in adult education.

    East Carolina University is a public research university located in Greenville, North Carolina. Founded in 1907, East Carolina University began as the East Carolina Teachers Training School. Today, ECU is the second largest university in North Carolina.
