Program Details

The online PhD in Nursing Ethics degree program combines doctoral courses in Nursing and Healthcare Ethics.  Since nurses are typically “on the front lines” of ethical health care issues, it is important that they are ready to handle such situations.  With this degree you will be prepared.

This is an interdisciplinary online nursing degree, with courses taught by both clinical nursing faculty and health care ethicists who are experts in theoretical ethics.  The program’s goal is to develop a student’s intellectual skills and practical knowledge, preparing them to think and debate rationally and to stand up for what is right.  Coursework includes topics such as intensive research in health care ethics, social and distributive justice in health policy, clinical ethics, and more.  Graduates are able to:

  • Identify ethical issues in nursing
  • Evaluate options using moral and ethical reasoning
  • Come to a well-reasoned resolution

Students are required to come to campus for the final public defense of their dissertation.
