Program Overview

The Associate of Science in Accounting Technology Degree program will provide principles and practices that are necessary for a fulfilling career in the accounting profession. This degree could also be the foundation for a transfer into a bachelor's degree program. Throughout the courses the student will cover many subjects including basic accounting theory, basic accounting practice, financial planning and taxation. Computer simulations will allow students to be able to apply their teachings.

Admission to the program will require student to have require a 'C' or better in certain program specific courses.

Accounting technology is sometimes thought to be similar to bookkeeping. However, a career in accounting technology would imply an emphasis on education in uptodate accounting technologies and software programs. Graduates may find themselves seeking careers with titles such as actuaries, brokerage clerks, financial analysts, financial clerks, accountants or internal auditors.

Students who graduate from the Accounting Technology Associate of Science program will have been provided with the knowledge and skills to perform at a entry-level positions. They should be able to demonstrate clear communication and solve problems using critical thinking. Students will also be prepared to be able to both identify and discuss legal and ethical issues pertaining to tax preparation, financial planning and reports. The courses in the program will also provide them with the knowledge of estate planning, cash management and investment planning. Recording, summarizing and reporting business transactions are all general accounting principles that will be covered as well.

Graduates of this program are eligible to be enrolled in Daytona State College, Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management program.

    School Overview

    Daytona State College is a public state college located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is a member institution of the Florida College System. Founded in 1957 as Daytona Beach Junior College, the Florida Legislature authorized the school as one of the state's first comprehensive colleges. In 2006 the school’s name changed to Daytona State College, a name that came with the addition of a bachelor's degree.

    That program evolved and today DSC offers seven different bachelor degree programs, all within the fields of education, supervision and management, and engineering technology. Other bachelor level programs and articulation agreements are being planned for future implementation to support the region’s economic development and workforce needs.
