Program Overview

The Associate of Science Degree in Medical Assisting will give students the required knowledge and skills to execute the role of being a Medical Assistant in several different settings. With several different types of medical facilities available to choose from, this Medical Assisting Degree will prepare the student for a rewarding future in Medical Assisitng where ever their individual path may lead them. Upon completion of the program students will go on to work for private doctors, in clinics, group practices or hospitals.

Currently, the program is offered by distance education as well as an on campus blended learning format. Durring the course of the program the training will come in two settings, both clinical and administrative. To list a few examples of the training that students will be receiving throughout the course of completion would be as follows: recording vital signs, medication administration, scheduling, record management and billing for insurance carriers.

The Daytona College of Medical Assisting Program is recognized by the American Medical Technoogists (AMT). Once a student graduates from the program they will become eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certificate examination. Graduated students will also be qualified to take the Basic Radiographer exam with the American Registry Radiologic Technologies (ARRT). License requirements vary based on residency, so students should confirm their state's licensure requirements prior to taking the exam. Through the State of Florida the graduate will be eligible for the Basic X-Ray Machine Operators License. In addition, the graduate will qualify for both the EKG Technician Certification (CET) and Phlebotomy Technician Certificate (CPT) through the National Healthcare Association.

    School Overview

    Daytona opened its doors in 1996 as the Daytona Institute of Massage Therapy as a school dedicated to train students to be the very best at massage therapy. About ten years after its inception the private college expanded its programming with the addition of the Aesthetic Skin Care, Cosmetology, Allied Health and Business programs. Daytona College trains students for employment in specialized, technical fields.

    Daytona awards associate's degrees, diplomas, and certificates in four main subjects: beauty and wellness, business administration, allied health and online programs. Students can receive a good number of these degrees and certificates from a distance as well, through Daytona’s online programs. The online programs also host many of Daytona’s continuing education classes—those available to community members, professionals or other individuals interested in enhancing their knowledge in certain subject matter. Examples include accounting and finance, teaching and education and writing and publishing.
