Certificate in Religious Education
College of Saint Elizabeth offers a Certificate of Religious Education for students interested in the ministry and ministry professionals. Professionals may be interested in certification demonstrating their understanding of Christianity and their ability in teaching and administration, as well as teaching of the word of God. Students will take part in a curriculum is intended to reflect on the meaning of God, the fundamentals of the Christian faith, and the morality and ethical system that is part of the Christian belief system. The program aims to allow students to advance their knowledge of faith, religious studies, as well as their technological literacy and ability to teach.
The program will allow students to take part in a curriculum which aims to develop their understanding of religion and religious studies as preparation for roles in education. The curriculum consists of 24 credit hours of classes that include Identity and Pastoral Practice with the Living God in Foundations of Lay Ministry, Religious Education Skills and Competencies, and Principles and Processes for Decision Making in Christian Ethics.
Successful graduates should be able to exhibit understanding of the theory and practice of teaching the word of God, including the meanings and applications of theology as knowledge about god, belief as personal acceptance of theological truths, and religion as action emanating from those beliefs. Graduates should also understand the central doctrines of Christianity, and be able to demonstrate understanding of the meaning of the sacrament. Lastly, students will be expected to demonstrate understanding of the issues of morality as faced by Catholics in the Christian church.
