Program Overview

Chadron State College currently offers a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Subject Major in Mathematics, a program designed for students wishing to pursue a career or further education in a relevant field. This degree is aimed at developing students’ ability and knowledge in the wide field of mathematics. Students will learn how to communicate about and with math, use technology for problem solving and generate understanding, and apply mathematical sciences (including statistics) in other academic disciplines.

Students must complete 36 hours of mathematics courses in addition to the General Studies Program requirements. Courses include (but are not limited to) Calculus, Differential Equations, Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Analysis. There is also a mathematics seminar during the final year of study. Students can choose one or two electives, which must be selected from the upper division courses in mathematics and information science and technology.

The General Studies portion of the degree promotes a breadth of knowledge in many different academic areas in order to expand intellectual development. The program teaches students to think constructively and critically on global and social issues. General Studies areas include, but are not limited to, communication, fine arts, history, physical education, and science. Up to nine credit hours in general studies may be applied towards a secondary major or minor, though none can be applied towards the Mathematics requirements.
