Established in 1966 as a part of the Virginia Community College system, Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education, located in the city of Lynchburg, Virginia. In addition to the main campus in Lynchburg, CVCC operates off-site centers in Amherst, Appomattox, and Bedford. The school is approved to award associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates, and organizes academic programs into three divisions:
Business and Allied Health
Humanities and Social Sciences
Science, Math and Engineering
Students at Central Virginia Community College can earn an Associate in Arts and Sciences degree in General Studies or Business Administration completely online.
Online degree programs provide a means for students to complete their associate’s degree with the intent to transfer into a four-year program. In addition, online classes are offered in more than 6,000 credit and non-credit courses. E-learning includes courses hosted through Blackboard Collaborate, web-based courses, and hybrid classes. Blackboard Collaborate features synchronous sessions, whereby students login at a set time and day, and participate in virtual class sessions. Asynchronous web-based courses are hosted on Blackboard but do not require set meeting times. Hybrid courses combine face-to-face meetings with supplemental online assignments.
