The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Humanities and Social Sciences degree offered by Cayuga Community College is a program of study available to students in a completely online format. This program aims to give students the opportunity to design their own program of study that meets their personal interests or career or educational goals. This program can be used to prepare a student to transfer to a four-year Bachelor degree level program; a way to determine an educational goal; or to determine what job or career is appropriate for the student.
This program aims to equip a student with a foundational level of skills and knowledge related to Liberal Arts and a General Education. By the end of this program, a student should be able to convey the following knowledge and perform the following skills: to demonstrate a general understanding of our human and natural environment; to be able to use methods of investigations and expression to communicate with others; to demonstrate proficiency in academic skills, which includes research, critical thinking, problem solving that are needed to master specialized fields; to display a general ability to understand and evaluate information; and to demonstrate an awareness of diverse cultures.
This program requires a student to complete a minimum of 62 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. Students must take 18 credit hours of English and Humanities courses, 12 credit hours of Behavioral and Social Sciences, 9 to 12 credit hours of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, a Computer Literacy course, 9 credit hours of Liberal Arts electives, one course in Other World Civilizations or the Arts, one credit hour in Health and two credit hours of Physical Education, and 8 to 11 credit hours of courses in electives. Students can choose concentrations such as: Criminal Justice, Early Childhood, Education, Music, Literature, Psychology, Theater, and Writing. These concentrations are intended for students who have some idea of what they might want to continue to study or pursue as a career.

Cayuga Community College is a two-year, public school, and part of the State University of New York (SUNY) higher educational system. The main campus is located in the city of Auburn, New York, and a second campus is maintained in Fulton. Cayuga Community College partners with Open SUNY to provide distance education degree options for students, including associate’s degrees and certificate programs.
Cayuga Community College awards Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees. Degree programs offered in their entirety online include studies in business administration, liberal arts, and criminal justice. Certificates in criminal justice and general education can also be earned completely from a distance. Hybrid degree programs at Cayuga support at least fifty percent of coursework online.
