Program Details

The online Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) with a concentration in Exceptional Student Education degree helps students gain the skills and knowledge needed to become qualified and culturally competent educators who can respond to the language needs of individuals with little to no English proficiency.  The program integrates studies in education and language acquisition with an overall focus on cultural diversity and exceptional student behavior.  Students learn to use methodologies and interventions designed to enhance English language learning, based on the fundamental concepts of ESOL education, while also studying Exceptional Student Education in order to be able to identify and address specific behavioral and emotional difficulties in children.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Official transcripts from all previous undergraduate and graduate institutions attended
  • Preference is given to applicants with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Three recommendations, preferably from current or past professors
  • A current curriculum vitae summarizing the applicant’s credentials
  • A Statement of Purpose that provides a clear indication of the applicant’s interest in the field, short- and long-term career goals, and expectations as to how Albizu University will contribute to those goals
