Master Of Science (M.S.) In Educational Leadership
Cardinal Stritch University
The Master of Science in Educational Leadership Degree from Cardinal Stritch University is designed primarily for educational professionals who wish to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to take on leadership roles in instructional institutions. This program is also beneficial for individuals with an interest in other administrative areas of education. Those who complete this program can potentially take on roles as principals and directors of instruction, as well as site council members, grade level coordinators, or department chairs.
This online-based degree program utilizes a cohort format, in which students move forward with the same group of peers. Students must form study teams, which meet outside of class to complete individual and group assignments, review class content, and hold discussions. These groups consist of at least three members, with six being the maximum number allowed, and those within it choose when and where to meet each week. Working with peers is an important and rewarding experience, and the knowledge gained here will follow students to their life after this program.
To graduate, students must complete a total of 31 graduate-level credits that align with Wisconsin Administrator Standards, while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA on all coursework. Courses in this master’s degree program include an Introduction to Leadership, Leading Organizational Development, School Law and Business, Analysis of System Leadership, Human Resource Leadership, and Data Driven Decision Making. Students must also complete a leadership portfolio, a master’s project, which they also present, and receive a recommendation for graduation from the program chair – all within a maximum of seven years.
In order to qualify for entry into this program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, while having maintained an overall 3.0 GPA. In addition to the application, students must submit two Attitude and Disposition Questionnaires, available on the Cardinal Stritch University website, a personal essay outlining goals and reasons for entering the program, a current resume, and official transcripts from previously attended institutions. Applicants must also have a current valid teaching license from Wisconsin or another state and at least one year of teaching experience.

Initially an all-girls school, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi founded St. Clair College in 1937, quickly establishing The Literacy Centers, a reading clinic for struggling children. As the century progressed, so too, did the school. The college was renamed Cardinal Stritch University, and achieved regional accreditation, along with developing graduate programs by the mid-1950s. Then in 1970, the University became co-educational. Stritch University continued to expand, introducing associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing followed by a business degree program to meet the needs of adult students, and a distance education program for graduate studies. In 2006, the University offered degree programs fully implemented online.
Cardinal Stritch University houses four colleges, awarding associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in more than 60 fields of study. Furthermore, undergraduate online programs and coursework offers necessary flexibility for professionals and students with busy lifestyles.
