Program Details

The Master of Education in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University is designed for educators working in a K-12 institution that wish to hone their teaching skills via an online format. This program focuses heavily on the Five Core Principles of Teaching set by the NBPTS: commitment to students and learning, teachers knowing the subjects they teach and how to do so, responsibility for managing and monitoring student learning, a systematic approach to teaching and learning from experience, and the importance of teachers as members of a learning community. Students will use Teachscape, a professional development online platform, for this program.

This program utilizes a cohort format, in which students move forward with the same group of peers. Students can meet outside of class to complete individual and group assignments, review class content, and hold discussions. Those enrolled will be assigned a cohort coordinator and have access to a trained counselor who specializes in giving support to students working online. Working with peers is an important and rewarding experience, and the knowledge gained here will follow students in their career after this program.

In order to successfully graduate, students must complete a total of 32 credits as well as an applied research project that focuses on an area of study specific to their career goals. All coursework must be completed with an overall minimum 3.0 GPA and those enrolled may earn no lower than a B- in any one class. Students will study how the brain learns and the ways in which gender, race, and cultural backgrounds form learning styles and strategies. Classes in this program include Educational Leadership, Differentiated Instruction, Curriculum Design, The Thinking and Learning Brain, Instructional Strategies, and Teacher Leadership courses.

To qualify for entry into this program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, while having maintained a minimum overall 2.75 GPA throughout all coursework. A copy of a valid teaching license or evidence of teaching experience, as well as two completed attitude and disposition questionnaires, to be filled out by professional supervisors or colleagues, are also required.
