The Capella Master’s in Addiction Studies integrates course work, residency, and fieldwork, which are focused on providing you with the skills and knowledge necessary to help individuals struggling with or affected by addictions. Earn your degree in the Capella Master’s in Addiction Studies in as little as two years with a curriculum that covers theoretical and practical skills necessary to offer treatment for addictive behavior. To complement your academic course work, the program includes 300 hours of internship, which aligns with the common requirements states have set for credentialing examinations. 

With your Master's in Addiction Studies from Capella, you'll learn to identify behaviors and situations and apply counseling theories, models, and approaches to individuals and groups who face addiction. You'll also apply knowledge, skills, and best practices related to addiction treatment, and select appropriate assessments to evaluate clients and develop a treatment plan.

Common jobs include addictions counselor, case manager, chemical dependency counselor, chemical dependency professional, clinical counselor, and correctional substance abuse counselor.     Requirements

    One in-person, 7-day residency experience is required.

    • All applicants must understand, read, speak, and write fluently in English
    • Official transcript(s) from previous institutions for degree and post-degree coursework, if applicable

    Minimum level of education required:

    • Must have a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution
    • Minimum grade point average of 2.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale
