Capella University’s online EdD specialization, Personalized and Competency-Based Instruction, helps you plug your classroom in to current trends and theories in the field of education. 

This specialization, part of Capella’s programs in education innovation and technology, focuses on effective ways to integrate technology in a P–12 learning environment, and features a comprehensive capstone experience. Faculty offer personalized support to guide your progress through the doctorate, build your applied research and writing skills, and encourage expertise and leadership in your profession.

This program is designed around the Teacher Leader Model Standards, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Teachers, the Association of Teacher Educators Standards for Teacher Educators, and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards.

The EdD in Personalized and Competency Based Instruction from Capella will help you grow as a building or district leader, applying technology decisions based on personalized and competency-based learning and curriculum design. The program is designed to fit your professional experience and career goals as you develop a strong grasp of methods and best practices for using technology in the classroom. Your capstone experience will offer you unique skills based on practical application of the knowledge you obtain in this program.

Graduates with an advanced degree in personalized and competency-based instruction can look forward to career opportunities in a variety of roles, such as school or district technology specialists or coaches, teachers and leaders within school districts, assessment and measurement directors, superintendents, reading and literacy department specialists, and staff in local or state education agencies.

For current K-12 professionals interested in extending their education with a graduate degree. Capella University education programs do not lead to initial teacher licensure.

Requirements

Your program of enrollment determines the admission requirements. 

Basic requirements for all programs:

  • Admission application and non-refundable $50 application fee
  • Acknowledgement agreement
  • All applicants must understand, read, speak, and write fluently in English
  • Official transcript(s) from previous institutions for degree and post-degree coursework, if applicable
  • Minimum GPA as defined by your program

Minimum level of education required:

  • A masters degree is required for admission.

This accreditation covers advanced educator preparation programs at Capella University. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P–12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
