Program Overview

Canisius College offers a Certificate in Education Technologies online. This program is designed to prepare teachers for New York State certification as an Educational Technology Specialist. Students will be prepared to teach students how to use technology in a way that motivates and enriches their learning. Emphasis is placed on the application of technologies for content literacy.  

This program allows flexibility due to its online delivery. Students complete 12 credit hours and will take required courses in Learning with Technology, Instructional Design Theories and Models, Educational Multi-media Design, Integrating Technology in the Differentiated Classroom

Upon graduation, students will be able to demonstrate content knowledge, pedagogical, and professional knowledge. They will also be able to model technology effectively for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students. Lastly, students will demonstrate a willingness to use their newly acquired skills to benefit and serve society, while continuing to evaluate and expand their skills.

    The Canisius College School of Education and Human Services is accredited by the National Council Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Richard J. Wehle School of Business is the largest private institution in Western New York accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

    • One official college/university transcript showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum grade point average of 2.7.

    • Evidence of teaching certification complete or in progress is required if seeking NY State certification.

    • Submission of two (2) letters of recommendation.

    School Overview

    In 1870, German Jesuits constructed a building to establish Canisius College in Buffalo New York. Today, this institute has grown to include 56 structures on 72 acres. More importantly, Canisius College still retains its Catholic and Jesuit heritage.

    Students can pursue over 100 majors, minors, and other programs of study, and Canisius offers students 1,000 plus courses, awarding associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. For students seeking graduate level work, Canisius offers degrees in the fields of business, education, arts & sciences, counseling & human services, allied health, and administration. Options for completion include one hundred percent online coursework, hybrid courses with short residency requirements, half-online and half campus-based courses, and blended courses taught primarily face-to-face with an added web-based component.
